This educational initiative has involved neonatologists and nurses from all over India. The ten modules are focussed on improving the quality of medical practices, resulting in the best outcomes for preterm neonates.

The modules are based on a participatory learning methodology, and include a wide array of learning tools. The skills acquired are then evaluated by an Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) and competency-based learning is administered in small groups using low cost innovative models (simulations). This improves communication and performance, and enhances psychomotor skills. The entire package is envisioned to be administered by state medical colleges to the SNCUs under their supervision via 'hub and spoke' model.

Getting Started

If you are a new user, please go through these once by clicking on each question panel

This website is designed to make the users aware of the best care practices to be used to prevent retinopathy of prematurity in preterm infants. The course is divided into 10 modules, each targeting a different area of care. There is no particular order to access the modules; you can start off with any module of your choice.

Each module consists of a few objectives, and in each objective you will have certain learning resources, like videos, webinars, posters, and ‘scripts’, which are summaries of the discussed content. It is important to remember that you shall be able to access the objectives only in the given sequence that they are presented. You can go through the next objective only after the completion of the previous objective. Once you have gone through the given content, you will have to attempt a timed MCQ test at the end of every objective. You have 2 attempts to take the test, and you can only proceed to the next module if you score 80% of the maximum marks available.

All you need to access these modules is an internet connection and an email id! You must first make a user account by registering on the website, or logging in if you have already registered.

Once you are logged in, just pick a module and get started!

Since this is a website, you will need a working internet connection to be able to access all of the resources. We aim to provide a cohesive and interactive learning experience in the form of visual media like videos and posters, as well as scripts and MCQ tests, and these resources require an internet connection.

However, we have made the Posters and Scripts available for download as pdf documents – you just need to click the download button on the specific page, and save the documents to your device. This way, you can access them even if you are offline!

Each objective has an MCQ test at the end, for which you have 2 attempts available. To reach the next objective, you must obtain a score of at least 80%.

To begin the test, click the ‘Start’ button. Once you click the ‘Start’ button, you must attempt the questions in the given time limit, or your answers will be auto-submitted. Please do not refresh the page while attempting an MCQ - your answers will not be marked, and you will lose 1 attempt.

Regarding the attempts, after you submit your 1st attempt, you have 2 options available. Either you can see the correct answers to the test, or you can retake the test (i.e., use attempt #2). If you choose the ‘Show Answers’ button, your 2nd attempt will be considered void, and you will not be able to retake the test. Therefore, if you have not achieved passing marks, or wish to retake the test for a higher score, please do not choose the ‘Show Answers’ option, and instead choose ‘Start Test’ again to start your 2nd attempt. After your 2nd attempt, you are free to look at the correct answers of the test.

If you have run out of attempts and have not achieved the passing mark, please send an email to [email protected] along with your registered email address/user id, and we will get back to you!

A tick mark next to an objective shows that you have completed the module, and passed the MCQ test. You can now move on to the next objective.

If you see a lock sign and an objective is greyed out, it means you have not gained sufficient marks (80%) in the MCQ tests of the previous objectives of that module. Once you have completed all the previous objectives, the next objective will automatically become unlocked.

If you think that you have attempted and passed all the objectives, please send us an email at [email protected]. Make sure to include your registered email address/user id, and we will get back to you!

The Gradebook page shows you all the details of the marks you have achieved in the objectives, and whether you are eligible for a certificate for any of the modules.

At the end of every module, if you have passed the MCQ tests for every objective (i.e. >80% marks), you will have the option to download your certificate. The given certificate will be only for the specific module, and does not need to be printed out - you can simply save it as a pdf.

Additionally, once you have completed all 10 modules successfully, there is a course completion certificate that is awarded to you. The option to download this will become available on the home page, and from your gradebook, once you meet the required conditions.

If you face any technical issues or glitches with the website, for e.g. if you run out of MCQ attempts, or are unable to download your certificate, please send us an email at [email protected]. Make sure to include your registered email address/user id, and we will get back to you!

If you have any questions/doubts/clarifications regarding the learning material provided, feel free to email us at [email protected]. One of the doctors managing the modules will respond to you as soon as possible.

The Team

A good newborn unit can thrive only if there is consensual approach, teamwork, rapport and mutual respect between the nurses and physicians. Consenting to follow the agreed best practices for the care of the baby always serves as a catalyst for further ideas to improve quality of care. The AIIMS team is indebted to all the contributors for their outstanding efforts in providing technical inputs and creation of content. We would also like to express our appreciation to Mr Sant Lal and Mr Sahil Mehta for diligently word-processing and formatting the guide. Last but not the least, Mr Kurian Thomas and his team, Medical Films also needs a special mention for developing videos and webinars. A special thanks to all the babies and their families of our neonatal unit who consented for creation of the video resource material. Finally, our gratitude and thanks to PHFI, UNICEF, USAID & WHO SEARO for ongoing support in capacity building and implementation of best practices in healthcare facilities.
